Self Forming Silver Membrane
Technology Owner: Newcastle University
About: Researchers at Newcastle University have developed a new type of membrane for filtering carbon dioxide and other chemicals. While traditional membranes are built using silver to filter out harmless chemicals from carbon dioxide, researchers have developed a new membrane that is grown with silver, which greatly reduces the need for silver to build the membrane. This technology grows the silver in the membrane itself and does not lose any of the functionality of traditional silver-built membranes. It can still allow harmless chemicals such as nitrogen to enter the atmosphere while capturing CO2.
Application: Industrial Capture
Type: Post-Combustion
Utilization: CO2 separation
Location: England, United Kingdom
